Study of the Quality of Life of the Hemiplesia Patients


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the quality of life of the hemiplesia patients. The subjects of this study were a total of 50 hemiplesia patients between 40 and 79 years old, both male and female.
They were out patients of the neurologic department in 2 hospital in Taejeon.
Data were collected during the period from January 20 to February 20, 1991.
The scale for this instrument consisted of 23 items, (physical well-being consist 6 items,diagnosis/treatment response consist 5 items, psychological well-being consist 5 items,social concern consist 3 items, body image concern consist 4 items).The findings of this study were as follows,
For the quality of life scale, the minimum score was 43.0, the maximum score was 197.0, mean was 101.316 and mean of the each item was 4.247. For each area in the quality of life, mean of the each item for physical well-being was 4.247, the diagnosis/treatment response 3.247, psychological well-being. 5,404, social concern 6.040, body image concern 4.340.
The relationship between each fonctor of quality of life and demographic characteristics were as follows:
A significant difference was noted between monthly income and physical well-being (P < .001), treatment/diagnosis response (P < .001), psychological well-being (P < .001), social concern (P <.O1) and body-image concern (P. <. 01).
A significant difference was noted between education and physical well-being (P <.O1) and body image concern (P <. 05).
A significant difference was noted between sex and psychological well-being (P <.01).
There was a significant correlation between quality of life and age, education, occupation and period of hemiplesic status (P <.05).
